Wow! If ever a title should stir up controversy, this one might make the top ten list. But the simple fact of the matter is that this would simultaneously create a new, expanding and motivated consumer group and widen the tax base to support retiring baby boomers.
Update: If you get past the paradigm of "don't steal our jobs," you may recognize that these infrastructure jobs won't be all that high skilled and these new workers will have basic ongoing subsistance needs that will provide permanent economic stimulus to put everyone back to work. It'd be a helluva lot better and more forward thinking than a $600 dollar "stimulus" check.
